Felix J. Blaskowski

Felix Blaskowski, age 92, of Glenwood, MN, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Glenwood Village Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 19th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood, with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home and will continue on Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenwood. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Felix John Blaskowski, the son of Felix and Lucille (Schwartz) Blaskowski was born July 12, 1930 in Jamestown, North Dakota. Felix grew up in North Dakota until his family moved to Brainard, Minnesota before settling in Sedan. On February 28, 1952 Felix entered the United States Army. He served his country in during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on February 27, 1954.
After his service Felix moved back to the Sedan area where he worked as a butcher. He worked for several meat lockers and even owned his own meat locker in Villard for a few years. On June 20, 1956, Felix was united in marriage to Mercida Podtburg in Morris. The couple made their home in Glenwood. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Larry and Bradly. Felix and Mercida shared 57 years of marriage before Mercida passed away June 3, 2014.
When Felix was 40 years old he started working for the Soo Line Railroad, later it was bought out by CP Railroad. He continued to work for the railroad for the next 30 years, until he retired from the CP railroad at the age of 70. He will be remembered for his love of fishing and cigars. Felix passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
He is survived by his sons, Larry Blaskowski of Fargo, North Dakota and Bradley Blaskowski of Glenwood; two sisters-in-law, Betty Blaskowski of Kensington and Joan Blaskowski of Sauk Centre; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mercida; his siblings, Eleanor (Gustav "Pep") Berggren, Stanley (Lillian) Blaskowski, Celesta (Albert) Doege, Jerome Blaskowski, Patricia (Alvin) Huerkamp, and Alfred "Corky" Blaskowski.
