Celebrating the Life of Felix Borjas Vasques

Born on May 24, 1952 in Tanquito de Banda, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Santos and Paula Borjas, he lived as a loving son and brother doing what he could to survive a rural life in the valleys of Central Mexico. On December 9, 1974, he married Maria de los angeles Tovar and together they had seven children: Maria Felix, Sylvia, Araceli, Sandra, Angelica, Joey, and Felix Jr. As his family grew, so did their needs. So, with limited formal education, his ambition forced him to migrate to California where he found work as a laborer picking fruits in the fields. However, with several mouths to feed and more on the way, he once again uprooted and moved his family to Houston, Texas in 1981 where he became a successful pipe fitter.

As a man with a large heart, he found comfort in following God and tried to understand the word of the Lord. He often approached situations with a moral conviction and a clear heart and mind. His other love was baseball as he was a huge Houston Astros fan. He would often say that he never cared for soccer or American football but he would stay up on weeknights after long days at work to watch his favorite team.

With over 50 years of marriage, Felix was grateful to see his grandchild grow. A patient, hard-working, caring, insightful, and charitable man, Felix was one to listen to someone and offer comforting words or sound advice. Often, these conversations would occur randomly over dinner, while watering his beloved garden, or on a long drive during which he would remind his children to stop and enjoy the scenery every now and then. Indeed, Felix was a man with many faults, but he found comfort in the Lord, his family, and the simple things in life. He focused on eating healthy, cracking jokes, and traveling to new places to explore the world. Above all, even with his shortcomings, he celebrated and was proud of the success his children reached by starting their own families and finding their own way in this world.
