Obituary published on Legacy.com by Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton on Dec. 22, 2025.
Felton Smith was born in
Jay, Florida, on April 3,1935, and was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on December 16, 2025, at the age of 90. He was the fifth of seven children born to John and Doris Smith. He was a standout athlete at Jay High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was honored as the best player in all three sports. He received a basketball scholarship at Pensacola Junior College before eventually going on to LSU banking school. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Annelle Smith. They met on a blind date and were married for 69 years.
Throughout his life, Felton did many things. He served two years at an Army base in Germany; he worked in the financial industry from the president of Santa Rosa State Bank to an agent with New York Life; and was a founding member of Christ United Methodist Church. However, more than anything he ever did, Felton will be remembered for who he was. He was a man who fully surrendered his life to God and lived each day as an embodiment of the servant heart and gentle nature of Jesus. He served as the president of Beulah Holiness Camp Meeting for 32 years. He went on mission trips from Haiti to Costa Rica. But his most impactful mission field was his home. He shared about Jesus with everyone he met, whether it was a stranger at a Florida football game, a friend at the pond fishing, or his grandkids as he made them coke floats and homemade ice cream.
Felton, or Mypops, as he was known to his grandkids, loved no one more than his family. You could find him every morning at 5:30 AM praying. Out of his life of prayer, he served his wife during sickness and health, he refused to complain when life got difficult and modeled to his children and grandchildren a contagious joy and contentment. He was a storyteller, a craftsman, a father, a brother, and grandpa. He was a man of deep faith, and his life was a beautiful example of Jesus' love in action.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Annelle B. Smith; his children, Tyke (Kellie) Smith, Fran Moye (David Huddleston), and Fent (Gaye) Smith; and his grandchildren: Laren (Katie) Smith, Meghan Smith, James Moye, Daniel (Elle) Moye, Jonathan Moye, Stephen Moye, Christian Smith, and Bethany Smith. He also leaves behind his sister, Eunice Golden, and brothers, Max Ray Smith and Jimmy Smith.
Felton was preceded in death by his parents, John Lloyd and Doris McDaniel Smith; brothers, Harold Smith, Clarence Smith, and Edsol Smith; and his son-in-law, Jim Moye Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Christ Methodist Church,
Milton, Florida.
A special appreciation for his caregivers Susan McBrayer, Teresa Vanhorn, Gena, Sacred Journey Hospice and the amazing staff at The Stewart House! We are forever grateful for the way they loved and cared for our Dad!
