Ferne (Hagey) Alderfer, 94, of Lansdale, PA; formerly of Harleysville, PA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Dock Woods Community.
She was the loving wife of the late Harold A. Alderfer for 70 years. Ferne was born in Lederach, PA to the late Henry G. Hagey and the late Katie T. (Clemens) Hagey.
She graduated from Souderton Area High School, class of 1946.
Ferne worked as a key punch operator for the former Martin Century Farms (now known as Lehigh Valley Dairy) in Lansdale, PA, as a church secretary for Salford Mennonite Church in Harleysville, PA, as a bookkeeper for Hatfield Mennonite Home in Hatfield, PA and lastly in the medical records department for Dock Woods Community in Lansdale, PA.
She was a member of Salford Mennonite Church in Harleysville, PA where she served as an elder, a librarian, and an adult Sunday school teacher. Ferne volunteered for New Life Boys Ranch in Harleysville, the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton, and the Mennonite Historians of Eastern Pennsylvania in Harleysville, PA.
She was an avid reader, seamstress, and enjoyed working on the computer. Ferne also enjoyed traveling, listening to classical music, playing the piano and the organ, and entertaining guests. She had a love of learning and was very respectful of other world cultures.
Ferne was a friendly, caring, woman of faith.
She is survived by her two daughters, Betsy L. Moyer & husband, J. Phillip of Lancaster, PA, Sharon A. Rutter & husband, Wayne of Hatfield, PA; her son, Kenneth D. Alderfer & wife, Martha of Arlington, VA; her nine grandchildren – Joanna, Stephen, Laura, Abigail, Peter, Justin, Caitlin, Lucas, & Rachel; her 11 great-grandchildren – C. Phillip, Naomi, Lily, Ryan, Isaiah, Elias, Beatrice, Mabel, Noah, Grey, & Asher; and her sister, Jane Underkoffler of Estero, FL.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ferne was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Marion.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Salford Mennonite Church, 480 Groff's Mill Road, Harleysville, Pennsylvania 19438 from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.
Inurnment will take place at Salford Mennonite Cemetery.
