Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home, IncFeryl H. Stein, 90, of Kutztown, passed away Friday, October 10, 2025. He was the husband of the late Joline M. (Ludwig) Stein. Born in Kutztown, he was the son of the late Clarence J.P. & Elda C. (Biehl) Stein.
Feryl was a 1953 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and a graduate of Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute.
He served as an Army Specialist 3rd Class Field Artillery Surveyor with Headquarters Battery, 83rd Field Artillery Battalion from 1955 – 1957.
Feryl worked for the Kutztown Publishing Company and then Dorney Printing Company until his retirement.
At an early age, Feryl developed a love of flying from his father, spending countless hours working on and flying planes with him.
He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served in various leadership roles and was a member of the choir. Feryl was a member of the Hartman Camp in Potter County since 1962 where he enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing, and family vacations. He was a proud 36-year member of Huguenot Lodge No. 377 F & AM Kutztown.
Feryl served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 101 in Kutztown, sharing his love of hiking and camping. He was an avid gardener at his home in Kutztown where he tended to his vegetable garden, grape vines, and fruit trees.
Feryl is survived by daughters Sally J. wife of Brent Sugita of Gilbertsville, Susan L. wife of Charles Grofe of Boyertown; daughter-in-law, Jonna Stein; four grandchildren: Andrew, Mallory, Meredith, and Abigail; a great grandchild; Becker Mallon and a sister Joanne wife of Paul Yenser, Kutztown.
He was predeceased by son Jonathan Stein in 1999, and his sister Althea Snyder in 2012.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00am from St. John’s Lutheran Church, 201 E. Main Street, Kutztown, PA 19530, with the Rev. James Schlegel, officiating. Relatives and friends may call Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the church. Interment at Hope Cemetery, Kutztown, will be private.
