Vic was a graduate of O'Keefe High School in Atlanta, Georgia and Florida Junior College in Jacksonville. He met the love of his life, Janet Tritschler and they married on May 2, 1975. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and went to Parris Island, SC for boot camp in 1957. He served 8 years in the Marine Corps before working in the private sector until 1976, when he re-enlisted in the Marine Corps which he would go onto serve until 1996, completing a total of 31 years and 9 months in the United States Marine Corps. Vic was very patriotic and loved to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday and sharing those stories with his Marine Corps brothers.
His hobbies included Cowboy Action Shooting, watching his beloved Atlanta Falcons and traveling with his family. He and Janet loved to take cruises and spending time with grandkids and great grandkids. Vic and Janet attended the "End of the Trail" shooting competition in 2021, where he was able to participate and shoot. Vic and Janet are members at Crown Point Baptist Church, where they have faithfully served for many years.
Surviving family include his wife, Janet Vickers; 5 children: Debbie Dalton (Kevin Dalton, deceased), Howell Vickers, Jenny Vickers (deceased), Wendy Miller, Danny Vickers (Niki Vickers) and Chris Vickers (Adrienne).
Celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 PM at Peeples Funeral Home, 14165 N. Main Street with Pastor Mike Ragland, Col. Clyde Slick and Dr. Vivian Allen.
A service to honor his military career will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday at Jacksonville National Cemetery. USMC Honors will be conferred.
If anyone wishes to send flowers, the family requests that instead of flowers, donations to be made in his memory to Crown Point Church Mission Fund.
