Shelly J. Thornton

Shelly Jean Thornton, 56, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Community Hospice care center.

Born on December 15, 1968, Shelly was the daughter of the late Sgt. John T. Thornton, USMC, and her mother, Connie Jones. Shelly was a loving, tender-hearted, and kind person who cherished reminiscing about her childhood. She delighted in sharing stories that brought laughter and warmth to everyone who knew her. Her remarkable memory was a true gift, keeping precious moments alive through her storytelling.
Shelly was a graduate of Andrew Jackson Sr. High School, Class of 1987 and worked for many years at the airport for Host Marriott.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandmothers: Nett Stringer and Doris Jean Wall; grandfather, S.T. Wall, Jr.; aunt, Mildred Harrod; and uncle, Charles Harrod.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted mother, Connie T. Jones, and dad, Frank Jones; her loving aunt and uncle, Kim and Tracy Wood; cousin, Allison Akins (Todd) and Brooke; goddaughter, Rebbecca Kerlin; lifelong friend, Rob Huffman (Kim); and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family in Bay Springs, Mississippi. Her beloved dog, Bella Jean.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Franklin Street Baptist Church, 2521 Franklin Street, with Dr. Terry R. Gore officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at the church.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Baptist Hospital and Community Hospice for the compassionate care Shelly received.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin Street Baptist Church in Shelly's memory.
