It is with impossible pain in our hearts, we let you know that our sweet Finn joined their loved ones in light, December 8, 2024.
From the moment Kelly and Joe knew they were expecting; Finn was wrapped in love. They brought so much light into the lives of their parents from the very start. Kelly would tell you, to be Finn's Mom was all she ever wanted to do. Tracing the line from the tip of their nose, down to the bottom of their chin, Joe would marvel at Finn's beauty- both parents noting it was as if their child were sculpted to perfection. It would become apparent soon thereafter that this beauty Finn would carry inside and out.
As early as can be recalled, Finn possessed a natural curiosity for all living things. Spending much of their time outside and in the woods, they were passionate about learning everything they could about every little creature they encountered. Methodically, they would catch arachnids, reptiles, amphibians, bugs of all kinds- study them and release them back with a kiss for luck- their 'pets in the wild' they would say. Even as a small child, they would encourage folks of all ages to meet these creatures with respect, as opposed to fear. To Finn, we were all put here to share the earth and to care for each other. This was a philosophy they would carry with them all the way through life. It would later be seen, not only in their advocacy for the moral treatment of animals, but especially in their advocacy for any human unlucky enough to find themselves outside the box of expectation. As filled with compassion and grace as they were, Finn also possessed one of the most courageous hearts. To stand up for what is right, was not something Finn would shy away from. For the sake of keeping those they loved safe, in the name of what was just, they would fight just as passionately as they did anything.
Finn enjoyed spending time with family and friends. They had tons of amazing experiences spent with those that loved them, listening to music, playing video games, frolicking in the sun, going on rides, camping, exploring Boston, hiking, going to shows, playing Pokémon Go, creating and appreciating art of all kinds, and taking care of their animals. They also enjoyed the sunrise, reading, spending time volunteering at the Humane Society, as well as Home Grown Scales and observing the Salamander Crossing every Spring. Finn aspired to finish their education, and travel by bus, using their photography to raise money and open an animal sanctuary. Their dream was to spend their time educating people of all ages and walks of life on the fair and ethical treatment of all creatures. They eventually wanted to study genetics in hopes of finding ways to increase life expectancy and limit instances of chronic and/or mental illness. Finn's goal was to make the mortal experience a more enjoyable and comfortable experience for all. The world was better off with them in it, but they truly were too good for it.
To know Finn, was to love Finn. Their beautiful smile, gentle nature and amazing sense of humor touched the lives of so many. Here to carry on Finn's memory are their Mom & Stepdad (Kelly & Jerome Ward), Dad (Joseph Hagen), Sisters (Emma & Jada Hagen), Grandparents (Jackie & Bob Sargent, Bud & Bea Merrill, Michael Hagen), Pets (Rigby, Ester-Bean, Porter, Kit Capone, Pixis, Lance, Tula, Fukasaku, Chickens & Ducks), as well as a ton of supportive and wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins & friends.
For those of you finding yourselves lost in grief, Finn would want you to know that they are at peace now. They would want you to go out into the world and do all the amazing things you planned to. Remember them for the good times and being the special human they were. A celebration of life will be held at Finn's family home in May. All friends and family are welcome. Details will be shared closer to that time.
If you're looking for a way to pay tribute to Finn, nothing would make them prouder than to have donations made in their name to the Springfield Humane Society. If you're looking to honor them in some other way, help a turtle cross the road, save baby possums, move that bug to a safer spot, adopt a pet, skip that Turkey dinner, pick up trash, scream the Taco Bell Saga at the top of your lungs with friends. In the face of adversity, choose kindness. Keep trying and repeat.
