Fletitia “Tish” Lou Downs, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away at IU Health West Hospital surrounded by her husband and three surviving children on December 2, 2023. She was born in Mooresville on August 14, 1937, to the late Stanley Dobbins and Gladys (Benson) Dobbins-Briggs. Tish attended Mooresville schools and later married Carl Downs, Jr. on December 30, 1967, and he survives. After 30 years, she retired from Marion County Health and Hospital in 1999.
Tish and her husband were a longtime members of the Plainfield Eagles Lodge #3207, the Women’s Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. When they were able, Tish and Carl enjoyed camping, boating, and skiing every weekend at Heritage Lake. They also enjoyed traveling with her brother, Bob, and his wife, Sue. For many years, Tish and Carl took part in bowling leagues and worked in the voting polls. She loved playing cards, bingo, board games, and working puzzles. Tish selflessly was the caregiver for her family, and she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Tish is preceded in death by her son, Terry Turley; infant grandson, Brian Keith Summitt; brothers, John and Charles Dobbins; and stepfather, Archie Briggs. Survivors include her husband, Carl Downs, Jr. of Indianapolis; children, Victoria Turley-Carter of Mooresville, Teresa Turley-Mundy of Bloomington, Carl (Ann) Downs of Indianapolis; brother, Robert (Sue) Dobbins of Mooresville; grandchildren, Stephanie (Danny) Brock of Mooresville, Ashley (James) Callahan of St. Augustine, Florida, Zachary Gallagher of Chesterfield, Virginia, Ezra Turley-Robinson of Bloomington; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.
Tish’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. A private burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery. Visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
