Flora Marshall Holland, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 20th, 2024, at the age of 82, after a brief battle with cancer. She was a beautiful person, deeply loved by her family, and remained dignified until the end.
Flora was born on June 28th,1941 in Kingsport, TN to her late parents, Dewey Marshall and Lillie Marshall Baker. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Horace Holland, her twin sister, Lora Rush, sisters, Betty Estepp and Eloise Crawford, and brothers, Dayton Marshall, Ralph Marshall, and Herman Marshall.
Flora was a long-time member of Bethel View Baptist Church, where she also proudly dedicated 42 years of service as the church custodian. When she wasn’t in front of her sewing machine making quilts, Flora could be found working in her garden, canning fruits and vegetables, making jellies, or cooking the most delicious meals. She was quite the competitor in Phase 10, Skip-Bo, and Aggravation and made us all laugh with her quick wit and humor. Flora was incredibly smart, thrifty, independent, and resilient. She persevered through hardship and built a wonderful and special life for herself and her family. Her legacy of gentle, nurturing, unconditional love will be passed on by her family for generations to come. She will be sincerely missed in so many ways.
Flora was a devoted mother and the sweetest granny that ever lived. She is survived by her son, Richard Holland of Blountville, TN; grandchildren, Brooke (Cory) Jones of Kingsport; Athena (Russell) Christopher of Blountville; and Richard (Kirsten) Holland II of Kingsport; great-grandchildren Winter Holland, Nathaniel Christopher, Charlie Hoss, Berkley Jones, Quinlyn Jones, Noble Jones, and Myles Holland; sister: Ruth Hite of Kingsport; and brothers: Onnie (Janie) Marshall, Ronnie Marshall, John (Adele) Marshall, and Verlin (Bobbie) Marshall all of Kingsport. Flora also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many special friends. She loved them all dearly and, in turn, was loved so well by them all.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2630 Hwy. 75, Blountville, TN. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Andy Wood officiating. Burial be held in the Garden of Solomon at approximately 4:00 p.m.
