Florence (Flo) Bendo, formerly of Uniontown PA, passed away April 17, 2023 at the age of 96. She was born on January 22, 1927 in Bowood PA to John and Costanza Pozzuto, the oldest of five girls that included Josephine 'Babe' (Varlotta), Dena (Giust), Dorothy 'Dot' (Volcheck) and Joan (Baer). She was preceded in death by husband Joseph Sr. who passed on November 1, 2010. Joseph Sr. was a star baseball player who served in the Pacific with the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. Flo and Joe had three sons, Joseph Jr., Jerry and Terry. Joseph Jr. resides in Akron with his wife Diana, Jerry resides in Dallas with his wife Marcia and Terry resides in Akron with his wife Jamie. Flo was extremely proud of her sons and did not hesitate to let every one know. Grandchildren include Justin and Seth to Joseph Jr. and Diana, Amelia, twins Noah and Nicholas, Ian, Isabella, Colin and Jared to Terry and Jamie and great grandchildren Peter, John, and Abby to Seth and Anna in Columbus.
Flo, always fashionable, worked at several retail stores including Metzler's and Fashion Hosiery in Uniontown PA, and also worked in Cleveland during World War II. She was very active in church, very social and popular, and a wonderful cook. She was everybody's favorite at Brookdale Bath Senior Living in Akron where she spent her last ten years. Small but mighty, she was much loved and will sorely be missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Mass will be held in her honor at 9:30 am on Saturday, May 6 at Saint Hillary's Church in Akron.
