Florence E. Bickhart went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 17th, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Bickhart, who passed away in 1992.
Florence was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 29th, 1932. She was the daughter of Marion Garns Jackson.
Florence spent her childhood in Birchrunville on a farm. She attended the one room schoolhouse and fondly remembers waiting for the bus on the steps of the Birchrunville Store. In 1950, the family moved to Chester Springs and Florence graduated from Spring City High School.
Upon graduation, the farm girl moved to the "big city" of Phoenixville. She began working at the Pottstown Thrift Corporation in town. Most nights were spent dancing at "The Hut" with friends. Mom always said "Oh the Hut, where Lincoln crosses Nutt and the elite meet to eat!"
It didn't take long for the pretty young girl to meet the handsome man of her dreams Bob Bickhart (Potter). They were soon married in Chester Springs and settled in Phoenixville where they raised their two children. Florence was an avid gardener and their home was beautifully landscaped. They spent many summers at their place in Pine Haven outside of Sea Isle City, NJ. They could always be found at the beach or playing cards with friends.
She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making clothing for herself and her daughter. She also made many gorgeous quilts and crochet afghans. As everyone around Florence knew, she loved fashion. She was always meticulously dressed with accessories to match every outfit. Florence worked as a supervisor at John Wanamaker's for 24 years in the handbag department.
Florence was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Phoenixville for 65 years and was involved in many committees. She loved the community of Phoenixville and served as a hospice volunteer, was on the women's auxiliary and worked at the Phoenixville Hospital Thrift shop.
After the death of her husband, she found love again with companion Jack Eicherly and he became part of our family. They spent many years traveling, dining out and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles.
In addition to being a wonderful mother, Florence was a very devoted grandmother. She loved supporting her granddaughters and never missed a game, play or concert. She was overjoyed to welcome 3 great grandsons and watch her family grow. Florence loved nothing more than hosting a holiday and cherished having her family all together.
Florence is lovingly remembered and survived by son Robert Bickhart, devoted daughter Barbara Sell wife of William; grandchildren- Malerie Fernandez wife of Eduardo, Ashleigh Melton wife of Stephen and Courtney Quaglia wife of Matthew; great grandsons- Carson Melton, Wyatt Melton and Ford Quaglia. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Bickhart, companion Jack Eicherly and many beloved friends.
The family would like to thank Chestnut Knoll, Chestnut Knoll at Home and Caring Hospice for their loving and wonderful care.
