Florence Capobianco

Florence Adeline Capobianco ("Cappy", "Sis", "Aunt Sis"), 102, of Wellesley, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, at Elizabeth Seton Residence. Florence was born on November 9, 1921, to Adeline Valente and Raymond Capobianco of Newton Upper Falls.
Her childhood was an idyllic time in her life, which she recalled fondly. She attended Newton High School and developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for learning. After graduating from high school in 1939, she attended Cambridge Graduate School and Boston University. She worked for the Newton Girl Scout Council and later as a secretary to business executives in Boston and Needham, eventually becoming the secretary to the financial director at Perkins School for the Blind.
Florence spent a lifetime serving others. After twenty years of working at Perkins, Florence served as a volunteer for fifteen years at the Wellesley Board of Public Health. She was a loyal member of the Newton Upper Falls Woman's Club and helped organize the Club's 100th anniversary celebration and final meeting in June 2019. In her free time, she enjoyed golfing, bicycling, bowling, and spending time with her eight nieces and nephews. She was an avid reader and an engaging conversationalist who made others feel special. She looked forward to visits from her nieces and nephews and instilled in them a love for reading, travel, and conversation. She had an amazing memory and told entertaining stories and accounts of her travels to Hawaii, Maine, and other coastal locations. Even in her last few days, she told stories from throughout her life, and lived vicariously through her nieces and nephews.
Florence was predeceased by her parents and brother, Thomas Anthony Capobianco. She is survived by her loving brother, Raymond Joseph Capobianco of Wellesley, her nieces and nephews Mark (Lee Simmons) Capobianco of Watkinsville, Georgia, Paul (Jodi) Capobianco of Raynham, Nancy Pendleton of Ashland, Ann (Jeff) Thurber of Ashland, Brenda (Jim Lehman) Capobianco of West Lafayette, Indiana, Patricia Capobianco of Clinton, Paula (Dennis Roethlisberger) Capobianco of Charlottesville, Virginia and Tom (Tia) Capobianco of Holliston, twelve great nieces and nephews, one great-great nephew, as well as countless beloved cousins and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 3rd at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Parish, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley followed by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. Visiting hours will be Friday, from 4-7PM in the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, Wellesley.
