Florence L. 'Tootie' Helmacy, 92, of Meshoppen, passed away on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 8, 2023, at the Gardens at Tunkhannock Nursing Home in Tunkhannock.
Florence was born in Franklin, N.J., on Aug. 6, 1930, the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Jane Blewett Terrill.
She was a graduate of the Trewirgie Girls School in Redruth, Cornwall, England and the American Institute of Banking. Florence would go on to work for several banking institutions including Mid-Atlantic Bank in Newton, N.J., Newton Trust, and Great Country Bank in Ansonia, Conn., before retiring in 1994.
After retiring, Tootie moved to Susquehanna County in 1995 with her husband, Thomas Helmacy whom she married on Oct. 17, 1992. While living there, Tootie became of a member of both the Susquehanna County Farm Bureau and the South Auburn Grange #1188.
Tootie is survived by her husband, Thomas C. Helmacy, her children: Christine Eckman of Gettysburg, Stephen Franek of Gettysburg, Michael Franek (Debbie) of Branchville, N.J., Mark Franek of Franklin, N.J., Maryellen Downing of Hilton Head, S.C., Louis Helmacy (Sarah) of Towson, Md., Joan Pulliam (Barry) of Westfield, N..J, and Jill Rogaz (Chris) of Prospect, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Florence is preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie Pezzato; her sister, Audrey Walters; her brothers: William Henry Terrill II, Ernest John Harry Terrill, and Kenneth Terrill; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Franek.
A funeral service for Florence will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m., from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 Route 6, Meshoppen, with Rev. Ron Folk of the South Auburn United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m., until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence's name to South Auburn Grange #1188, c/o Charlene Tewksbury, 1630 SR 3001, Meshoppen, PA, 18630.
