Florence Sue Munson (Gilbert)

 Florence Sue Munson (Gilbert), a warm, kind, and loving soul, left this world on November 3, 2024, at Doey's House. Born on September 17, 1944, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Robert and Hazel Gilbert, both retired Brigadier Generals for The Salvation Army.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Nanette Gilbert Carter.

Sue graduated from South Hagerstown High School, a milestone that paved the way for a fulfilling life ahead. She found immense happiness in the simple pleasures of life; whether it was engaging in music, and trivia games with her son Joel, dancing to her favorite tunes, or simply sitting on her back deck, watching the sunset, Sue embraced every moment with enthusiasm and gratitude. She was blessed with a close-knit family. Her heart was equally large for her grand-dog OZ, who brought her great comfort and companionship until his passing six years ago.

Sue dedicated over 30 years of her life to working at Martins Food Store off Pennsylvania Avenue. Her colleagues and customers alike admired her unwavering kindness and genuine spirit throughout her career. A particularly memorable moment in Sue's life was her 80th birthday celebration last September when her wonderful friends surprised her with a party that brought her immense joy. Surrounded by laughter and love, Sue radiated happiness, a testament to her ability to forge deep connections and create lasting memories.

She is survived by her beloved children, Quinn Duprey, Todd Keefauver, and Joel Keefauver, her brothers; Bob and Albert Gilbert, sister Hazel Gilbert Sisk, six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Sue touched the lives of many during her remarkable journey of 80 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. with receiving of friends from 2-3 p.m.. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue., Hagerstown, MD. Inurnment will be private.

For those who can not attend, the service will be via Livestream.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to The Salvation Army in her name.
