Florence Stafford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chas. Verheyden, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Grosse Pointe on Feb. 19, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Florence, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully at the age of 91 on February 15.

Born in 1934, Florence led a life filled with love, resilience, and kindness. She was a devoted mother to her five children: the late Gary Rapaski (Betty), Maryellen Mallouf, Stephen Rapaski (Amani), the late Christopher Rapaski, and Patricia Kowalski (Robert) from her first marriage to Stanley Rapaski, who tragically passed in 1969. Despite the hardships she faced, Florence nurtured her family with unwavering love and strength, guiding them through life's challenges.

In her early 60s, Florence found love again and married her wonderful friend, Douglas Stafford, who has also passed. This union brought joy and a welcoming embrace from her five stepsons: Michael Stafford (Ann), Jeffery Stafford (Dina), Bruce Stafford (Agnes), Craig Stafford (Jennifer), and Scott Stafford (Catherine), along with their families, enriching her life with new relationships and cherished memories.

Throughout her life, Florence was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She took immense pride in their achievements and enjoyed every moment spent with them, creating a legacy of love and support.

Florence had a passion for travel, experiencing the beauty and diversity of the world. A lover of flowers and knowledge, she possessed a deep respect for life and all its wonders. Her positivity and grace shone brightly; she truly embodied kindness, never speaking an ill word about anyone.

Her loving spirit will be missed by all and we are forever grateful for the time spent with her.

She will lie instate on February 23 at 10:30 AM, followed by a mass at 11:00 AM. The service will take place at St. Claire of Montefalco, located at 1401 Whittier Rd, Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate her remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Hundred Club of Detroit, PO Box 1018, Fenton, MI 48430. This nonprofit organization supports the families of fallen heroes in the Detroit area with scholarships, honoring Florence's love for helping others.

Rest in peace, dear Florence. Your legacy of love and kindness will live on in our hearts forever.
