Florene Spinks Slaughter, known affectionately as Florene to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in
Granite Shoals, Texas. Born on October 27, 1933, in
Mason, Texas, she was a beacon of warmth and creativity throughout her 92 years.
Florene was the cherished daughter of Baylous Winkler Spinks and Frankie Adeline Walton Spinks. She grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings, Jackson David Spinks, Jerry Spinks, Anita Spinks, and Thelma Spinks. Her life was further blessed by her marriage to JD Slaughter, with whom she shared a beautiful journey until his passing. Together, they welcomed their beloved children, Nelda Jo Slaughter Henley and Stanley Ray Slaughter.
Florene's early years were spent mastering the art of hairdressing, a skill that brought joy to many. Her career evolved over time, and she became an exceptional office manager, working in the Houston, Texas area. Her professional life was marked by dedication and a friendly demeanor that made her a favorite among colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond her work, Florene was a talented seamstress and an avid participant in arts and crafts. Her hands were rarely still, as she poured her love and creativity into every project she undertook. Florene 's legacy continues through her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband JD Slaughter, her daughter Nelda Jo, and her siblings. She is survived by her son, Stanley Ray Slaughter, who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and generosity. Her grandson, Joshua David Slaughter, and great-granddaughters, Rebecca Anne Slaughter and Morgan Nicole Slaughter, will forever be inspired by her loving example.
