Margie Nell Melton Byers, age 86, passed away midday afternoon, November 25, 2025, at her assisted living residence in Kingsland, Texas following a lengthy illness.
Margie was born on May 4, 1939, in Kemp, Texas to parents, the late Edward and Inez Melton. She graduated from Kemp High School and married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Byers, in 1957. Margie retired in approximately 1990 from Sears & Roebuck following a lengthy career of service and having children. She was also a stay-at-home mom who hand typed envelopes and letters at home (back in the day before computers) whilst taking care of her children. Margie was a long-time resident of Aley, Texas and was a member of the Tolosa Baptist Church in Kemp.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Georgie Heather (and her family) of Kaufman, Texas; her daughter, Pamela Jane Byers of Granite Shoals, Texas; her son, Douglas Wayne Byers (and spouse April) of Kaufman, Texas; her son, Edward Allen Byers of Newark, New Jersey; granddaughters, Heather McClendon of San Antonio, Texas, and Ashley LePrell (and spouse Jason) of Kaufman, Texas; as well as nine great-grandchildren - three from Heather McClendon: Sarah, Megan, and Hailey, and six from Ashley and Jason LePrell: Jaydon, Jake, Izabella, Amberlynn, Bethany, and Jason BillyTravis also survives. Margie was blessed with one great-great-grandchild, Lorelai Mae McClendon-Knoctx.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Inez Melton; her husband, Vernon T. Byers; and her brother, Claudis Melton.
Friends are invited to gather with the family at Anderson Clayton in Kemp, Texas to visit and share memories on Monday, December 1st, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The Celebration of Margie’s Life will begin at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at Baker Cemetery in Kemp.
The Byers Family would like to acknowledge and thank many unsung heroes that assisted in the care and support of our family. A special thank you to Margie's friends at Windchime Assisted Living in Kingsland, Texas. We are all eternally indebted to our friends and community for your support. Thank you.
