Florida Mae White Williams Johnson, fondly known as "Baby Sister," was born on February 24, 1936, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Mr. Willie B. White and Mrs. Willie Mae White. She peacefully transitioned from this life on October 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and service.
At an early age, Florida Mae accepted Christ and became a devoted member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully under the leadership of Reverend C. Jackson, Reverend C.C. Suggs, Reverend W.C. McNeil, and her present Pastor, Reverend Aarif G. Bradley. Her commitment to God's work was embodied in the scripture from John 9:4, "I must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work." Florida Mae served with honor and dedication on the Usher Board, in the Choir, and in the Senior Ministry until her health began to decline.
In addition to her church service, she worked with the Mobile County Senior Companion Program for over 30 years, where she was recognized with numerous accolades for her compassion and commitment to helping others. Known for her kindness and willingness to assist anyone in need, Florida Mae's heart and hands were always open to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Mr. Willie L. Johnson; her son, Master Sgt. Napoleon V. White; her brothers, Willie White Jr. and Tommie White; her grandparents, Jim and Lucy Hubbard, Antoinette Banks, Barman Hubbard, Edley Hubbard, Blanche Hubbard; and her nephew, Gregory L. Reese.
Florida Mae leaves to cherish her precious memories: her four loving daughters, Van Doris White, Sabrina Williams, Floreda Williams Fryer, and Addie E. Johnson; her cherished grandchildren, Maurice J. Russell, Chavis D. Russell, Napoleon A. Clausell Sr. (Tiffany), Hiawatha C. Fryer (Michelle), Floretta Mims, Flonetta White (both of Raleigh, NC), Tyler Jones, Jaden Chaney, Lee and Sandra Hunter; and her great-grandchildren, Kylie, Zenelope, and Napoleon Clausell Jr.
Additionally, Florida Mae's memory will live on in the hearts of her two godchildren, Georgia Jones and Gregory Kyser; her devoted sister, Bessie L. Reese; her two devoted brothers, James "Sonny" White and Roosevelt White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Her dear friends, Alfreda Hires, Georgia Harris, Norwetta Kyser, Debbie Manuel, and Sandy Hill, will also hold fond memories of their time shared with her.
Florida Mae White Williams Johnson's life was a testimony to faith, family, and service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
