At the age of six he started school at the "Virginia" one room school northeast of Foster, Missouri and in 1936 his family moved south of the Virginia store and he graduated from the Grandview School. In 1945 Floyd graduated from Butler High School.
On October 1, 1945 he registered for the draft and was called to duty by the US Army on January 2, 1946. Floyd completed his basic training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma and served his term of duty overseas in South Korea. He was the fifth Gaston brother to serve in WWII. Once released from the Army Floyd returned to Butler.
He and his brother Delbert went to Toledo, Ohio where they graduated from the meat cutting school and returned to Butler where they worked for the A&P Company for a year. Floyd then joined the J.C. Penney Co. and worked for them for almost 34 years before the store in Butler closed. He then became a police dispatcher for the Butler Police Department for twenty-two years before retiring.
On June 10, 1951 Floyd married Winifred Beth Black and to this union two daughters were born; Carol Ann Gaston Burns and Teresa Lynn Gaston Brandt. Floyd and Winifred enjoyed traveling, visiting London, England, Ireland and taking bus trips to the northwest and northeast US.
Floyd served six years on the Butler City Council and was a 50-year member of the Butler Optimist Club.
The greatest day of his life was when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

I will never forget a great brother-in Law. He provided a home for me for several years before I graduated High School.

When he dated Winifred, I would give them a wolf whistle each time as they drove away.

The love of friends and family carry you through your grief.Floyd and Winifred were friends of my parents long before I was born. Dad used to put up hay for Winifred´s parents. My deepest sympathy!
