Arlene Deloris (Shipley) Hill was born on November 15, 1936 to Chester Raymond Shipley and Vena Lettie (Flanary) Shipley at their home near Archie, MO. Shortly after her birth the family moved several times in the Amarugia area.
Arlene remembered when she was about 8 her dad decided their house needed to be moved so it would be closer to electricity access. They moved their house approx. 2 miles to the east by a team of horses attached to a pulley system with the house rolling on logs. Each day her mother cooked dinner in the house for the workers while the house was being moved. In the mornings when they left for school, they left the house in one place and when they returned it was in another.
Arlene attended eight years of grade school at Calvert School and graduated from Drexel High School in 1954. Arlene moved to Kansas City where she worked as a bookkeeper. She traveled home often to see her family and remembered when she would ride the train to Lisle.
On March 1, 1958, Arlene married Glen Harlan Hill at the Southfork Baptist Church. They started their home at the "green house" that was purchased from John and Emile Cory. They had many friends come to their house to complete a "shivaree" for them. In 1975, they built a new home and lived there for 50 years.
They built their life together in Drexel where they owned Hill Farms and she worked as the bookkeeper for the farm. Arlene was meticulous and efficient in her work with everything balanced and organized. This was also how she ran her home, where she was in charge of all things, including Glen.
Arlene accepted Christ at a young age and she was devoted to her faith in all seasons of life. Second to her faith, family was of the utmost importance to Arlene. She shined the brightest sitting at the head of her kitchen table, leading her cherished family in prayer for many Sunday, birthday and holiday meals she prepared for the family to enjoy.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, baking, sewing and family genealogy. Arlene and Glen loved to travel and have been to almost all 50 states. In addition to traveling, they loved attending their grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. Arlene enjoyed going out for lunches and day trips with her sisters, Larie and Joyce.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Robert Hill, her brother, Norris Shipley, her sisters, Larie (Shipley) Thomas and Joyce (Shipley) Champlin.
She is survived by her husband Glen Harlan Hill, a son Timothy Hill and wife Bonnie of Drexel MO and a daughter Kristie Fisher and husband Russell of Harrisonville MO; a brother Martin Shipley and wife Donna of
Drexel, MO; three granddaughters, Tiffeny Manson and husband Dusty of Louisburg KS, Lacey Domnick and husband Nathan of Harrisonville MO, Megan Krogen and husband JB of Pittsburg KS; seven great grandchildren, Taylor Manson, Gavin Manson, Brylee Manson, Carter Manson, Christian Krogen, Zoey Domnick and Lyra Domnick; a brother-in-law Stephen Champlin of Amsterdam, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
