Forest James Maxwell Sr., 81, of Elgin Texas, passed away on February 21, 2025, in Taylor.
He was born on March 17, 1943, in Austin, Texas, to Charles Otto Maxwell and Opal Maxwell. Forest married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Maxwell, on April 3, 1964. They shared 46 years together until her passing in 2010. Forest worked as a skilled union carpenter, local union 1266, for many years, a profession he took great pride in. Forest was known for his love of family and was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones. He enjoyed family gatherings of all kinds and cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Forest loved a good challenge, often playing washers, dominoes, and cards, and always getting a kick out of being unbeatable—except on rare occasions! He also had a deep appreciation and love for birds, particularly pigeons and doves, and enjoyed tending to his garden and hosting barbecues in the backyard. As a talented woodworker, Forest proudly shared his creations for years at the Hogeye Festival in Elgin. His craftsmanship and passion for his work touched many lives.
Forest is survived by his children, Theresa Kay Eckert and husband Ronnie, Forest James Maxwell Jr. and wife Melissa, and Danny Allen Maxwell and wife Melinda. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kayley Gwinn and husband Justin, Chad Eckert and wife Lauren, Melinda Hernandez and husband Brian, Aspen Maxwell, Shayla Maxwell and wife Hannah, Kallen Maxwell, and Darien Maxwell. He also leaves behind his sisters, Delores and Lillian, as well as several great-grandchildren and extended family members.
Forest was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Maxwell; daughter, LeeAnn Clark, grandsons, Brandon James Maxwell and Jeremiah Gage Byrd Sr.; brothers, Teddy, Gene, Ralph, Donnie, and Lee; and sisters, Pauline and Maudie.
