Forrest Bomar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home on Aug. 22, 2024.
Funeral services for Forrest R. Bomar, age 96, of Palestine, will be conducted Monday, August 26, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. David English and George W. Bomar officiating. A burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M at Southside Baptist Church.
Forrest's soul went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at TruCare Living Centers in Palestine, TX. He was born June 14, 1928, at the start of the Great Depression on a small farm near McKinney, TX to Elmer L. and Daisy Pauline Bomar. He graduated from the original Boyd High School in McKinney in 1947 and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. He retired after a variety filled 30-year career in the operations department of AT&T in 1982 and worked 10 more years as a consultant in the telecommunications field. During those years he earned certification as a project Management Professional. During his retirement years he pursued restoration of Ford Thunderbirds, enjoyed photography, vegetable gardening, and writing as hobbies. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served from 1950 to 1952 with combat duty in the 40th Infantry Division in North Korea, earning the Korean War Service Medal with one Bronze Star and various campaign service ribbons. He was thankful for having had the privilege to teach the Bible for over 20 years as a Christian and member of Southside Baptist Church, he loved our Lord and the Bible. One of his regrets in life was that he did not become a minister.
Forrest enjoyed the uniqueness of the Palestine area where he and his wife, Lee, had lived for 26 years, especially their home in Anderson County which they maintained and shared with their good neighbors and friends. He viewed the Palestine Community Theater as a significant part of the attraction to the city and filled supporting roles in several productions.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Winston Bomar, and Avery Bomar and their wives; stepsons, Randy and Gary Simmons. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 33 years, Lee Bomar; daughters, Susan Bomar of Colorado, Julia and husband Bob Austin and family in Pennsylvania; stepdaughter, Patricia Gallegos and daughter of Colorado; plus nephews, nieces, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tim Adair, Benny Toole, Ken Sides, Billy Williams, Paul Stephenson, and Lionel Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southside Baptist Church (General Fund). 1500 Crockett Road, Palestine, TX 75801.

Forrest was a loving man who always encouraged us anytime we were in his presence. What a joy to have known him.

Our visit in 2021. Forrest spent so much time with Sawyer, his great-grandson on Lee's side, teaching him and just talking with him. He was so patient!
