In Loving Memory of Fortino Torres Herrera

Fortino Torres Herrera, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on August 8, 1939, in San Isidro Zaragoza, Oaxaca, Mexico, Fortino lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service.

He migrated to the United States in 1957 and settled in Madera, California in 1983, where he built a life rooted in hard work and family. From 1962 to 1965, Fortino worked as a Bracero, contributing to the agricultural strength of the nation. He continued in farm labor and irrigation until his retirement in 2004, embodying perseverance and integrity.

Fortino was the proud father of 10 biological children and 1 adopted son. His legacy flourishes through 40 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. In 1990, he purchased his first home a milestone that reflected his enduring commitment to his family's future.

A gifted musician, Fortino played guitar, violin, and other instruments, filling his home with music and joy. He loved animals and gardening, and found deep happiness in spending time with his grandchildren, sharing stories and laughter.

Fortino's generosity extended far beyond his immediate family. He opened his home to fellow migrants arriving in the United States, offering shelter, food, and support as they began their own journeys. His kindness and hospitality became a beacon of hope for many, reflecting his deep compassion and sense of community.

His civic spirit extended to his hometown in Mexico, where he contributed to the development of the city hall in San Isidro Zaragoza, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to community and progress.

Fortino shared over 62 years of devoted marriage with his loving wife, Macaria Vasquez de Torres. Their bond was sealed in the Fresno Temple on March 5, 2005, a testament to their enduring faith and love.

Fortino Torres Herrera will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, musical soul, and the profound love he gave to his family and community. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Fortino Torres Herrera, amado esposo, padre, abuelo y pilar de su comunidad, falleció tranquilamente el 31 de octubre de 2025, rodeado de su familia. Nacido el 8 de agosto de 1939 en San Isidro Zaragoza, Oaxaca, México, Fortino vivió una vida marcada por la dedicación, el amor y el servicio.

Fortino emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1957 y se estableció en Madera, California en 1983, donde construyó una vida arraigada en el trabajo y la familia. De 1962 a 1965, Fortino trabajó como bracero, contribuyendo a la fortaleza agrícola de la nación. Continuó en el trabajo agrícola y el riego hasta su jubilación en 2004, representando la perseverancia y la integridad.

Fortino era el orgulloso padre de 10 hijos biológicos y 1 hijo adoptivo. Su legado florece a través de 40 nietos, 40 bisnietos y 1 tataranieto. En 1990, Fortino y su esposa compraron su primera casa, un logro que reflejó su compromiso duradero con el futuro de su familia.

Un músico talentoso, Fortino tocaba la guitarra, el violín y otros instrumentos, llenando su hogar de música y alegría. Amaba a los animales y la jardinería, y encontraba una profunda felicidad al pasar tiempo con sus nietos, compartiendo historias y risas.

La generosidad de Fortino se extendió mucho más allá de su familia inmediata. Abrió su hogar a otros migrantes que llegaban a los Estados Unidos, ofreciéndoles refugio, comida y apoyo mientras comenzaban sus propios viajes. Su amabilidad y hospitalidad se convirtieron en un faro de esperanza para muchos, reflejando su profunda compasión y sentido de comunidad.
