Rev. Rick Dean Dagit of Colo, Iowa formerly of Williams, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 in Colo, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends following services at the cemetery back at the church. The service will be live streamed on the Story Marshall Catholic Church Cluster Facebook page and also on his obituary page on www.surls.com. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Home in Williams.
Rick was born on May 8, 1954 to Lowell and Colleen (Doyle) Dagit in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was a graduate of Northeast Hamilton High School of Blairsburg, Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, of which he was the valedictorian of his class, Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and Mount Saint Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD. He was ordained into the Priesthood on May 24, 1986 by Archbishop Daniel Kucera in Dubuque. Fr. Dagit celebrated his first Mass on May 26, 1986 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Williams, Iowa. Father Dagit served in the parishes of St. Joseph Parish in Dubuque, Iowa; Holy Ghost Parish in Dubuque, Iowa; St. Mary Parish in Eldora, Iowa; St. Mary Parish in Ackley, Iowa; St. Joseph Parish in Raymond, Iowa; Immaculate Conception Parish, Gilbertville, Iowa; Sacred Heart Parish in St. Anthony, Iowa; St. Mary Parish in Colo, Iowa; Saint Peter and Paul Parish, in Gilbert, Iowa; St. Patrick Parish, in Nevada, Iowa; St. Joseph Parish, in State Center, Iowa and St. Gabriel Parish, in Zearing, Iowa.
Rick is survived by his Mother Colleen Dagit of Williams, Brother Randy Dagit of Williams, and Brother Rodney Dagit of Williams, Aunt Phyllis Olson, Aunt Eileen Dagit, Aunt and Uncle Russell and Elsie Miller, several cousins, and all the members of his parishes he has served throughout the years he considered his family.
Rick was preceded in death by his Father Lowell Dagit, Grandparents Raymond and Alma Dagit, Leslie and Lila Doyle and several Aunts and Uncles.
