Frances A. Berly (Grammy) went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 4, 2025 at the age of 82. She is now walking the streets of gold with Jesus!
Born in Coushatta, LA to Alvin L. and Marcella Averitt on January 24,1943, she graduated from Coushatta High School in 1961. Shortly after graduation, she attended a business school in Shreveport and married Harry Berly also of Coushatta, LA on October 1, 1963. At that time, Harry was serving in the US Air Force. After being stationed in Kansas City, MO, they returned to Louisiana and settled in Shreveport.
Once settled in Shreveport, Fran worked for Western Electric on the assembly line for several years and saved all of her money! This allowed her to be a full time homemaker to their only child Kimberly. Together this family of three enjoyed weekends on the lake or summer vacations travelling the country with a pop-up camper in tow.
Grammy was deeply devoted to her two grandchildren, Calen and Carleigh Walker. She enjoyed nurturing them with home cooked meals, sing-a-long car rides and many many words of wisdom. In addition, she always had a hot meal ready for the ones that stopped in for a quick lunch break and routinely provided meals to neighbors. Grammy was also well known for her garage parties where she brought neighbors together for food and fellowship.
Fran was a former member of Janet Lane Baptist Church and spent the last 28 years as an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mom always said, “Everyone needs the JOY that can only come from JESUS!!”
Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Marcella Averitt, brother, Carl L. Averitt and wife, Dena and youngest brother, Larry G. Averitt.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Harry Berly; daughter, Kimberly and husband Eddie Walker; grandchildren, Calen Walker and wife, Kelsey and Carleigh Walker; great-grandsons, Graham and Fletcher Walker; also brother, James and wife, Marilyn Averitt; sister-in-law, Vicki Averitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fran will be missed by all who knew her, but we rejoice in knowing that she lived a full life having “Fun Fun Fun” along the way and is now WALKING with Jesus on streets of gold!
