Frances Cooper

Frances Cooper, 104, of Richland Center died on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Schmitt Woodland Hills. She was born on April 7, 1921 the daughter of Buford and Gwendolyn (Railton) Cooper. She grew up on a farm near Richland Center and attended Hustler's Ridge Rural School for eight years. Frances graduated from Richland Center High School as valedictorian and attended the Richland County Normal School for two years. She received her Bachelors Degree in elementary education and Masters Degree in reading from UW Platteville. After graduating, she taught in rural schools in Richland County. Her teaching experience also included teaching in Grant County schools and Platteville city schools. Frances served as a reading consultant for the Platteville Public Schools. She went on to teach in the Brodhead School District for 17 years. Frances was united in marriage to Ivan Cooper and the couple had three children.

Frances is survived by two children: Larry (Christine) Cooper of Rosendale,

Connie Hackbarth of West Bend;

Son-in-law: Wayne Bender of Green Bay;

Seven grandchildren;

Eight great-grandchildren;

Sister: Louise Schadauer of Richland Center;

Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents Buford and Gwendolyn, husband Ivan, daughter Karen Bender, son-in-law Harlan Hackbarth, brothers and sister: Harry (Ann) Cooper, Cal (Millie) Cooper, Kate (Don) Crary, and brother-in-law Joe Schadauer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Schmitt Woodland Hills Chapel. Burial will follow in the Loyd Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in the Schmitt Woodland Hills Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
