Frances Elizabeth Poer Hawkins Fox, a lifetime Bowie Co. resident, passed away on November 3, 2024, at the age of 92. Frances was born on January 27, 1932 to the late Clarence Virgil and Lucille Amanda Poer of Simms, Texas. She was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas David Hawkins in 1972 and Ansel "Buddy" Fox in 2010 as well as daughter Sharon Elizabeth Hawkins Lamb in 1980.
Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Boston, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the New Boston Genealogical Society, and the Retired Teachers Association, volunteering many hours in these organizations. Frances also enjoyed researching and writing articles about local history for families as well as the local papers. She also made contributions to the genealogical section of the New Boston Library.
Frances graduated from James Bowie High School in 1949 and later received a BBA degree in Education from East Texas State University. She retired from the New Boston ISD in 1991 after 30 years of teaching.
Frances is survived by a son, Clarence David Hawkins and wife Sharilynn Hawkins of Lakeway, Texas, daughter Laura Ann Spicer and husband Gary Spicer of Ennis, Texas, Stepdaughters Charlsey Gilbert of Garland, Texas and Connie Henderson of McKinney, Texas, six grandchildren Weston Lamb, Ryan Spicer, Amanda Westbrook, Taylor Hawkins, Nicholas Hawkins and Kyle Mikulenka and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Bates Rolf Funeral Home on Saturday November 9 from 5:00 – 7:00 and Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in New Boston at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday November 10, 2024, with Rev. Ken Cox officiating. Burial will be at the Shipp Cemetery under the direction of Bates Rolf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Old Union Cemetery Association or First Baptist Church of New Boston.
