Frances Funston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bauman Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Jul. 2, 2024.
Frances Theodori Funston, a beacon of selfless love and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at the age of 90 in Naperville, Illinois. Born on June 9, 1934, in Melrose Park, Illinois, Frances's early years were a testament to the community and values that she would carry with her throughout her life.
Frances was the beloved wife of the late Robert Grant Funston, with whom she shared a life full of love and dedication. Together, they raised a family that included their children Richard (Chris Stambaugh) Funston, Jacqueline (Harry) Stevenson, and the late Robert Mark Funston. Frances's nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, Julianna (Jeff Canet) Stevenson, Harry Jr. (Emmanuela) Stevenson, Robin (Arthur) Holmer, Sean Funston, and the late Robert Mark Funston, and she was blessed to see the joy of her great-grandchildren, Elisseo and Nepheli Stevenson. She was a cherished sister to Nancy (the late Ken) Carter and a dear aunt to Mary Sue (Roger) Folkerts, Megan (Chad) Price, Patrick Folkerts, Sean (Lily) Funston, and Chris Funston. Frances's love also encompassed her grand puppies, Hershey, Lily, and Gigi, who brought her immense joy.
A proud graduate of Proviso East High School in 1952, Frances's life was a portrait of dedication to her family and community. She chose to stay at home, focusing on raising her children and supporting them in their various hobbies and interests. Frances's commitment to her family was unwavering, and she instilled in them the values of compassion, generosity, and faith.
Frances's marriage to Robert in 1954 at Sacred Heart Church in Melrose Park was just the beginning of a lifelong journey of love and partnership. The couple first settled in "The Barracks" at Cornell College while Bob completed his education. Bob's teaching career eventually brought them to Naperville, where they laid down roots and raised their family. As founding members of St. Raphael Catholic Church, Frances and Robert devoted countless hours to volunteering and serving their church community.
In her later years, Frances discovered a love for travel, finding particular enjoyment in the serene beaches of Mexico. These travels brought her a sense of adventure and relaxation, allowing her to create cherished memories that she would carry with her always.
Frances will be remembered as a woman of great character, described by those who knew her as selfless, loving, and faith-filled. Her legacy is one of unwavering support and boundless affection for her family and friends. Frances's life was a living example of the Gospel she held so dear, and her impact on those around her is immeasurable.
As we bid farewell to Frances Theodori Funston, we celebrate a life rich in love and guided by faith. Her spirit will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched, and her memory will be cherished forever. Frances's journey on earth may have come to a close, but the love she shared will resonate for generations to come
