Frances Gutekunst was born on October 28, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to Leo and Wanda Karczewski. Frances, who resided in Southgate, Michigan, passed away on November 9, 2025 at the age of 92. Loving mother of Dawn Avery and Claudia Foss. Dear sister of Rosemary LaPierre, Michaeline Berkebile (Jay), and Casimir Rychlicki (Tina). Dearest grandmother of Jeff, John (Jill), Brian (Jodi), Mike (Rachel), Matt, Tim, Jessica, Megan (Tom), and Jennifer (Mike). Loving great-grandmother of 20 and a great-great-grandmother to 3. Frances was preceded in death by her parents Leo Karczewski and Wanda Rychlicki (Casimir), her husband William Gutekunst, her daughter Charlotte Menser, and her siblings Leo Karczewski, Evelyn Stec (Richard), Patricia Spanos (Peter), and Marianne Duke (Vernon). Also survived by many other loving family and friends.
Visitation Friday, November 14, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Taylor Chapel of Voran Funeral Home, 23750 Goddard Road. (313) 291-1800. In state Saturday 9:30 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection to follow at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 19624 Wood St, Melvindale. Inurnment St. Hedwig Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. Please share memories and leave condolences on Frances's guestbook on her tribute wall.
