Frances Harold Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark on Feb. 16, 2025.
Frances was born September 10, 1942 to Elmira & Francis Wright. She was the only child from this union. As a young adult she attended and graduated from Cheyney State College with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education. She met and married George Harold 1965, who was also a graduate of Cheyney State College. Their union lasted until George's passing in 1993. They had no children but loved their professions as educators for many. Fran continued her education and earned her Master's Degree and later earned credits towards her Doctorate. Throughout the years she consistently donated to her alma mater Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.
During her career she taught at Avon Grove Elementary, Morton Street School, Abington Avenue School and a few other locations. She divided her time and worked at Bambergers, now known as Macy's as a Sales Associate. Later she moved to the Credit Department and then became a Shop Steward for her Co-workers.
Fran taught various grade levels including, Special Ed and Adult Education after her retirement. She began another chapter in her life and went to work for Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, NJ.
Frances is a descendant of the Lenni Lenape Native American Tribe of South Jersey. She was also devoted to her college Sorority The National Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated Sorority-Alpha Chapter, a member of the NAACP, NJEA for teachers, Eastern Star, African American Literature Association, National Council For Teachers of English, Humane Society supporter as well as several other organizations. She regularly attended Teacher's Conventions regardless of the location.
She was a devoted Christian who became a Deacon at this church, Tabernacle Baptist. During the Covid outbreak, she faithfully attended church services via telephone. She was a woman who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dining out, especially for a good Prime Rib. She shared a love of Jazz and Blues clubs, travelling with friends and family and socializing with all of us over the telephone. She traveled to Georgia for the 1996 Olympics. Her cats Thomasena, Tyla and Timilyn were loved and cherished as her feline children.
On February 8, 2025 Fran left us to begin her Next Chapter.
She leaves behind a host of family, friends and colleagues. We all loved her and she will never be forgotten!

I extend my sincere thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of Frances Harold. She was an active member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Alpha Chapter for many years and served as chairman of our Health, Nutrition and Hypertension committee. As such, she provided much information on heart health and breast cancer annually. Additionally, she invited numerous speakers to present information on healthy living to the chapter. She also presented information about the Native American of which she was a descendant. Alpha Chapter members will truly miss her.
