Frances Hemphill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sebrell Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a woman of strength, kindness, compassion and humor, whose love and dedication to her family and friends enriched the lives of all who knew her. Fran was a wonderful cook, baker, flower gardener and was always creating fresh flower arrangements for church, showers, and weddings. She looked forward each year to helping decorate their church sanctuary at Christmas. She loved arts and crafts and cross-stitched many beautiful pieces displayed in her home and for others. As a wife, she was devoted to her husband Ronnie who she lovingly referred to as "Shug" and would do anything for him like cook his favorite meal, let him watch Fox News 24/7 (although she wanted to watch Andy Griffith) and she cared for him when he was down with a broken ankle. Their marriage lasted 43 years before the Lord called her home. ("Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all, Proverbs 31:29)". As a mother, she never missed a football game of Cameron's or a tennis match of Conner's if she could help it. She was always ready for a volleyball game and had the best serve that we referred to as her "moon ball." She poured her heart into raising her children and loved them with passion and unconditional love. She was their confidante and their greatest champion. ("As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you, Isaiah 66:13)." As a grandmother she would do anything for Kambreigh (11) Kimber (5) and Eden (2). She loved toy stores so made sure the girls had an arts and crafts room where they had anything they needed to express their artistic pursuits. Fran, who the girls called "Gram", also loved glitter and it did not matter if it was on her or the entire room! She encouraged the girls to take all forms of dance and be involved in their school's musical/theater productions and took them to all their classes. The girls loved helping her in the kitchen when she baked, made her biscuits or dumplings and flour was everywhere, but Fran did not care. We miss her more than words can express but we have the greatest memories and personal moments that will always be with each of us.

Fran is survived by her loving husband Ronnie D Hemphill of Star, MS. Sons Cameron (Beth) of Harrisville and Conner (India) of Madison. Three adored grandchildren: Kambreigh, Kimber and Eden. Brothers and Sisters Deborah Polk (Ted) of Crystal Springs, Theresia Cliburn (Mike) of Terry, Patricia "Patty" Polk (Mark) of Florence, Daniel Callahan (Carolyn) of Madison and John David Callahan (Terry) of Florence. Aunt Billy Smith and Uncles Sammy Smith, Danny Smith and Darrell Smith along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Preceded in death by her parents Francis Gervais and Marcielene Smith Callahan and her brother Timothy who passed after birth on April 21, 1957. Aunts Dale Armstrong and Ann Welch. The family will receive friends from 9 am until 10 am on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Star Baptist Church, Star, MS with the funeral service following at 10 am in the church sanctuary. The burial will follow at the new church cemetery.

Words are hard to say about Fran. She was a joy to be with. I had the privilege of working with her for several years at Hand´s Nursery. She loved her customers and was a wonderful artist of designing flower beds and arrangements. She always made you feel special and cared about what was going on with you and your family. I will cherish the memories of this special pretty lady that was so vibrant and full of life. I´m praying for the family that she adored. Sending love and prayers.
