Frances Amelia Hochrine, 96, of Cresco, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Pleasant Valley Manor, Stroudsburg surrounded by family. Born in Tobyhanna she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Vincetta (Strunk) Pope. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Arthur Hochrine and sons Gary, Dwight and Scott Hochrine and grandson Ricky Miller; her brothers, Phillip, Robert, Earl, Wilbur, Donald, Stanley and Raymond Pope and sisters, Katherine Hay, Geraldine Kirkhuff, and Lorraine Moll. Frances will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Darren Hochrine and his companion Amber; Donald Hochrine and his wife Jo Ann; daughters, Denise Decker and her husband Dave; Dawn Smoke and her husband David; and Diane Lundquist and her husband Richard; 17 grandchildren: Kindra Kresge, Kristy Wussow, Amanda Ramby, Courtney McCoy, Lindsay Paradis, Brendan and Collin Smoke, Samantha Johnston, Ashley Markovsky, Jeremy, Tyler, Riley, Cailee, Kyle, Sean, Liam and Courtney Hochrine. She had 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was given the nickname of Teedle at an early age and was affectionately called Aunt Teedle by many nieces and nephews.
Frances graduated in 1944 from Coolbaugh High School where she was salutatorian of her class. She was a lifelong member of the Tobyhanna United Methodist Church where over the years she held a variety of positions including treasurer, Sunday school teacher and pianist. Frances held a variety of jobs while raising her children; she was a secretary at the Tobyhanna State Park, a waitress at the former Mt. Pocono Diner, a cook at the NCO club at Tobyhanna Army Depot, she and her husband co-owned the Brookside Inn in Tobyhanna, and her last job before retirement was as administrative assistant for a medical office. Frances loved to crochet having made many baby blankets and sweater sets for her beloved grandchildren and others. She also loved to play bingo and spend time playing cards with her friends at the Barrett Community Senior Center in Cresco.
Family will receive friends and relatives from 11:00AM on Monday, February 6, 2023 in the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco PA 18326 followed by a memorial service at 1:00PM. Interment will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
