Frances A. Maccia, 91, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Born and raised in East Orange, Frances spent over 50 years living in Bloomfield before settling in Cedar Grove. A devoted educator, Frances served as a school counselor for the Bloomfield Board of Education for 25 years. Prior to that, she taught at Immaculate Conception School in Lodi for 20 years. Frances was an active member of The Women's Club of Upper Montclair and formerly a member of the Cedar Grove chapter of UNICO. A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Cedar Grove, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. In her leisure time, Frances enjoyed water aerobics, swimming, and cherished every moment spent at the beach.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alex Maccia; her parents, Frank and Theresa (née Stefanelli) Verrone; and her siblings, Marie Finnegan, Josephine Nowick, and Carmen Verrone. Frances is survived by her loving children, Theresa Maccia-DeJoseph and her husband Michael, Charlie Maccia and his wife Susan, Alex Maccia Jr., and Catherine Maccia. She was a proud grandmother to Christine Maccia, Alexa DeJoseph-Jarin and her husband Joseph and Nicole DeJoseph.
Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 9:00 a.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove with interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept 5 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookscedargrove.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frances' memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
