Nellie Frances Martin

Frances Martin, of Indian Land, SC passed away on October 24th 2025, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was blessed to recently celebrate her 85th birthday surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Martinsville, VA on August 23, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Hampton Wade Showalter and Nellie Sapp Showalter. In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband, Oscar Jessie "O.J." Martin, daughter Terri Denise Martin and her brother Bobby "Bob" Wade Showalter. She is survived by her daughter, Sherri and her grandsons, Jamison-20 and Austin-18 who reside in Marvin, North Carolina. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frances was married to O.J. for 60 years. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Terri and Sherri and known affectionately as "Nana" to her grandsons.

Frances was a proud graduate of Martinsville High School (Mavahi-Class of 1958). She was a member of McCabe Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She worked at Piedmont Trust Bank but spent most of her years as a devoted wife and mother to her family. Once her first grandson was born, Frances informed O.J. that they were moving south, and she reveled in being a grandmother. She was a member of Weddington Methodist Church and enjoyed Sunday School, Kings and Queens, and the Mary Martha Circle.

Anyone who knew Fran, knows that the things she loved most were her family and friends and a good dessert. She loved to shop, cook and care for others. You knew she cared for you when she brought you a pie or a peach or strawberry cobbler!

The family will honor Fran's life with a church service on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11:00am at Weddington Methodist Church, 13901 Providence Road, Weddington, NC 28104. A visitation will be held in Helms Hall immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104 following visitation.
