Mrs. Frances Joan Sassi Mixon, affectionately known as “Dee Dee”, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living in Hartwell on July 1, 2024. She was 90.
Born in Elberton on November 13, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Frances Fontana Sassi. Dee Dee was valedictorian of her high school class and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her classmates. She scored the highest scholastic average with best attitude in business school.
First employed at Coggins Granite and Marble for 1.5 years, she took a civil service exam and began her 36-year tenure at Southeastern Power Administration. DeeDee was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Elberton.
She is survived by her niece, Carole Smith Coggins of Elberton, GA; son, Charles Thomas Mixon of Milledgeville, GA; daughter, Pamela Margaret Hardwick of Alabaster, AL; grandchildren: Christopher Warren Dixon of Chelsea, AL and Jennifer Lee Dixon of Birmingham, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Warren Mixon, Jr.; sisters: Marguerite Theresa Sassi Smith and her husband Ben, and Lena Adele Sassi; and infant brother, Hugh Sassi.
At the family’s request, no services will be held. She was laid to rest beside her husband on July 3, 2024, in Elberton’s Historic Elmhurst Cemetery.
