Frances Gratchen Prata

Frances Gratchen Prata, 92, of Bulger, passed away Monday evening, August 19, 2024, in The Donnell House, Washington, after a brief illness. She was born March 29, 1932, in Joffre, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Bessie Pendracky Gratchen. A 1950 graduate of the Union High School in Burgettstown, Mrs. Prata retired from the Bulger Post Office and worked at the Shop 'n Save in McDonald for many years. She was a wonderful homemaker and baker, making countless dozen cookies every Christmas. She was a member of the Center Presbyterian Church in Midway and enjoyed going to the Burgettstown Senior Citizens Association. Her loving husband of 73 years, William J. Prata, whom she married April 28, 1951 in St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Bulger, survives. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her three children, Dr. James Prata and wife Clare Gleeson of Euclid, Ohio, Leslie Deer and husband Mark of Burgettstown, and David Prata and wife Shelley of Bulger; grandchildren, William "Billy" Deer (Mackenzie), Grant Prata (Nina), Adam Gleeson- Prata (Adey), Daniel Gleeson-Prata (Nicole), Kristen Gleeson-Prata (Alex), Francesco Petrola-Prata, and Sadie Rachelle Kinsey; great- grandchildren, Aleksandar, Kellan and Emma, as well as three more due to be born in November; sisters-in-law, Leoma Ayres (the late Merle), and Margot Gratchen (the late George); and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her son, William F. Prata, who passed away in 1969; brothers, Joseph, John, George, Andrew and Stephen, who died in infancy Gratchen; and sisters, Anne Kuzior and Mary Tasz. Services and burial in Robinson Run Cemetery in McDonald will be held privately for her immediate family under the direction of Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
