Richard Prata Obituary
Richard C. Prata,
Known for his loving and kind nature, passed away peacefully at his home in Weymouth on September 9, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. Born in Boston and raised in Hyde Park, Richard's journey was one of dedication, warmth, and enduring friendship, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories. Dick graduated from Hyde Park High School. His friendships with his Wood Ave, Ross Field and Hyde Park High friends endured over 70 years. Friendship and loyalty were benchmarks of his life. He began his professional career at Howes Engineering in Hyde Park where he helped make medical surgical devices for Boston Children's Hospital. He was also a retail manager at Harry the Greek's in the South End, where his charismatic personality and keen sense of leadership were evident. Dick later served with distinction at Homeland Security, where he was entrusted with the responsibility of guarding the Admiral at the Coast Guard Base on Atlantic Ave in Boston. His commitment to his work reflected his steadfast dedication to his community and country.
Dick's life was a testament to the values of family and friendship. He was the beloved husband of Susan G. (Roach), who stood by him as his partner and confidant through all of life's adventures. His deep bond with his brother Robert Prata and sister-in-law Diane of Scituate was a source of joy and comfort. Dick loved his late sister Dotty Kamenides who was both sister and second mother to him, and enjoyed for many years his relationship with her also departed husband Munsie. As a brother-in-law to Edward E. Roach and his wife Susan of Kingston, and Deborah Crane and her husband Michael of Canton, he extended his warmth and love, enriching their lives with his presence.
Perhaps one of the greatest testaments to Dick's character was his life-long friendship with John Corsi and his wife Jean of Marshfield. Best friends to the end, Dick and John shared a bond that transcended the ordinary, grounded in mutual respect and unwavering support. Dick's nieces, nephews, and the large close knit extended family will remember him as a beacon of kindness and a pillar of the family, whose guidance and affection were ever- present.
Dick's life was one of service, not only in his professional endeavors but also in his personal life. He was a devoted family man, always putting the needs of his loved ones above his own. Friends knew him as someone who could be counted on, a man whose great character shone brightly through his actions. The love he shared was unconditional, and his legacy will be carried on through the lives of those he touched.
In remembrance of Richard, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, friendship, and service. He navigated life's challenges with grace and faced each day with a smile. His memory will be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
As we bid farewell to Dick, we hold tight to the memories that paint a portrait of a man whose life was full of love and kindness. Although he has left this earthly realm, the impact of his gentle soul will be felt for generations to come. He will be profoundly missed, but his love will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Relatives and friends invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth Monday September 16th at 10:30. Committal will follow at at Forest Hills Cemetery.
