Frances Lynn Sommer Scheffer, age 70, passed into Eternal Life on June 4, 2023.
A visitation will be held from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with the family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill with Pastor Norman Sulacia officiating. Burial will follow at Sommer Family Cemetery on the Bluff.
She was born on November 24, 1952 to the late Floyd and Marilyn Sommer. On March 22, 1953 she received the sacrament of the Holy Baptism at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. She became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church on May 14, 1967 as she reaffirmed her faith in God received the Rite of Confirmation by Rev. Bill Norman. On March 17, 1973 she was married to Billy Scheffer at St. Matthew Lutheran by Pastor Dale Cerny. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past March.
Frances remained an active member of St. Matthew until the time of her death. She served as the church organist for 15 years and also held many roles throughout the church.
She worked at the Brenham Clinic for over 20 years and then worked at Trinity Family Practice before retiring completely.
Frances took great joy in canning the numerous crops grown in their garden as well as baking and cooking. She treasured the time spent with her grandchildren attending their various sporting events. Being around her family was very important to her and she always enjoyed holiday gatherings. Throughout her life, Frances was always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand to all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Scheffer; son, Stephen Scheffer and wife Deanna, daughter, Sarah Mueller and husband Brandon; Grandchildren Sterling Scheffer, Stratton Scheffer, Braxton Mueller, Bexley Mueller, and Brinley Mueller. Brother, Stanley Sommer and wife
Ann; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Shirley Gajeske and sister-in-law Bonnie Scheffer, numerous nieces and nephews as well as other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Edward and Carrie Scheffer; grandparents Fred and Hattie Sommer, Albert and Rosella Niebuhr and brother-in-law
James Scheffer.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Scheffer, Charles Gajeske, Allen Gajeske, Samuel Sommer, Mike Niebuhr and Ricky Rygaard.
Memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill or Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
