Frances Sevits Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adcock Funeral Home - Spring Lake on Feb. 26, 2025.
Generous, nurturing, loving, adventurous, strong, spirted, family-centered, and nature-loving are just a few words that best describe Frances Louise (Ashby) Sevits, 92, of Carolina Lakes, Sanford, NC, who passed away on February 22, 2025. She was a devoted daughter, military wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Known as "Fran" by her family and friends, she was born in Danbury, NC, the oldest of six children and the only daughter. At the age of twelve, her family moved from Danbury to a farm in Stokes County, where they grew tobacco. After graduating as Salutatorian from high school, Fran moved to Greensboro, NC, to work for Sears and Roebuck. In 1952, she met George W. Sevits, and they were married in 1953. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage before George's passing in 2023. They had two children: George William Sevits, Jr. and Deanna Sevits. Throughout her life as a military spouse, Fran was stationed in Okinawa and Germany, where she embraced the opportunity to travel and explore the world. Once her children were of school age, she began working for the U.S. Government, first at the Army Education Center and later at Womack Army Hospital. Determined to further her education, Fran attended Fayetteville Technical Community College after her children were grown and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Fran's greatest joys were spending quality time with her family and tending to her yard and garden. For the past 40 years, she called Carolina Lakes her "happy place," where she delighted in the variety of wildlife that frequented her backyard. Over the course of her life, Fran formed many lasting and enduring friendships, from her childhood to her time as a military spouse, from her work experiences to her relationships with neighbors. She kept in touch with friends across decades. She is survived by her son; George William Sevits, Jr. (Mary), her daughter; Deanna Sevits, four grandchildren; Justin Sevits (Moriah), Gary Sevits (Grace), Ashley Tibbens (Ryan), and Morgan Draughon (Glenn), 10 great-grandchildren; Tyler Sevits, Sawyer Sevits, Vivienne Draughon, Scarlett Draughon, Colton Sevits, Hamptyn Sevits, William Tibbens, Stella Sevits, Evelyn Tibbens, Theodore Tibbens, her brother; Ray Ashby (Ann), her brother; Ronnie Ashby and her nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Early and Elsie Ashby, her brothers Dean Ashby (Jean), William Ashby (Mary-Ann), Elwood Ashby (Joanne) and her sister-in-law Helga Ashby. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Adcock Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
