Frances Shoop passed away, November 19, 2022 In Johnston, IA. Fran was born in July 1931 in Chariton, IA to Frank and Beulah (Bradley) Lunan spending her early years there until graduating Chariton High and going on to Iowa State University. While at Iowa State she joined the Chi Omega sorority and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics in 1953. During this time she met Ron Shoop on a blind date. Fran was accepted into the Dietetic Internship program at Wadsworth VA Hospital and spent most of 1954 in Los Angeles, CA, returning to Ames later that year when she and Ron married, beginning 63 wonderful years of marriage until Ron's passing in 2017. Over the next dozen years the loving couple were joined by their three children, Kevin, Kristin and Kelin. Fran had a long and varied professional career, teaching for the Iowa Department of Health and DMACC and as a clinical dietitian for Mercy, before spending over 30 years as a consultant dietitian for many of the health care facilities in the Des Moines area. She was very active as a volunteer, board and committee member at several of the same institutions. She was a 50+ member of the AAUW and the Academy of Science and Nutrition. Among her many hobbies she took pride in the creation of her ceramic dolls, along with their clothing, and detailed cross stitched wall hangings.
She is survived by her brother Ralph "Greg", her children Kevin (Linda), Kristin (Scott), Kelin (Samantha), her grandson Adam (Katie), 2 great-grandchildren (Hank & Ike), her step-grandchildren Emma, Lia, Anna, Jeff and Matt, and many step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ron and her sister Loah (Stallard). Her ashes will join Ron's in the family plot in Chariton as well as in Rocky Mountain National Park.
There will be a casual open house, Celebration of Life to remember Fran on Dec 10, 2022, 2 to 4 PM at
McAuley Terrace Independent Living, 5921 Winwood Dr. Johnston, IA. Come share your memories of Fran with friends and family.
