Frances "Fran" Mae Short-Sorento, a loving mother, grandmother, and respected businesswoman, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at her home in Johnstown, New York, surrounded by her devoted family. She was 86.

Fran was born on June 3, 1939, and raised in her beloved hometown of Oneonta, New York, the daughter of the late Lester and Pauline Short. She attended Oneonta schools and married the love of her life, Charles Sorento, on November 6, 1971. Charles passed away in 1994.

A woman of sharp intellect and entrepreneurial spirit, Fran was a self-taught accountant who served her community as a dedicated tax preparer for over 45 years. Her passion for crafting led her to open her own business, Fran's Baby Boutique, where she sold yarn and her beautifully crocheted baby clothes.

Fran had a vibrant zest for life and an array of hobbies. She was a competitive spirit who loved competing in dance roller-skating competitions and was a proud member of the Wells Swingers Bowling League. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and reading. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. Her deep affection for her loved ones extended to her treasured kitties, whom she considered her second family.

Fran's memory will be cherished by her sister Leslie Putnam, three daughters: Karen Williams (Mark Williams), Kim Paul (Gloria Dillenbeck), and Kathy Chamberlain (Paul Chamberlain). She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in her vast family, including 9 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Lester and Pauline; her mother-in-law, Mary Sorento; two brothers and one sister; and her beloved son-in-law, Paul Chamberlain. She was also predeceased by five grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
