Frances Arthur Simpson, known fondly as “Happy” to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 101.
Frances was born on July 6, 1922 in Fort Worth, Texas to Jessie and Claude Arthur. She was a graduate of Paschal High School and attended National Park College in the DC area and Lindenwood College in St Charles, Missouri. As World War II continued, Frances returned to Fort Worth and volunteered with the Red Cross. It was during this time that she would meet DeOrsay Simpson, Jr of Greenwood Louisiana who was serving in the Army Air Corps.
Following a typically brief courtship of war times, Frances accepted DeOrsay's proposal, and with her parents’ blessing, took the train to Shreveport where they were married at the Methodist parsonage on Fairfield Avenue and honeymooned at the Washington Youree Hotel and the Fort Worth Club.
After the war and some years in Fort Worth, the family settled in Greenwood and later Shreveport. Frances was a member St Mark's Episcopal Church and very active in the Visiting Guild. She always loved visiting with the elderly and newcomers. Frances was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose foundation was the Lord Jesus Christ. During her later years, she suffered from blindness and yet remained courageous and cheerful and will be greatly missed. Frances is survived by her two children, Dee Simpson III and Peggy Monsted (Robert), grandchildren, Caroline Monsted Brady and Robert Monsted III, great-grandchildren, Grace and Jay Brady and niece, Jerre Tracy( David) of Fort Worth and DeOrsay's niece Mary Richard ( Allan, deceased) nephew Edwin Higginbotham( Candace) Eugene Bryson( Charlotte). Frances is predeceased by her husband, her parents, her sister Margaret Ruth Wilson( Al) and nephew Claude Wilson(Lorraine.)
The family would like to offer special thanks to Frances's wonderful helpers who took such faithful and loving care of her, especially Jennifer Hall, Timika Moore, Louise Lias, Regina Smith and Lavanna Law. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
