Frances E. Straughn

Frances Elizabeth Straughn was born September 24, 1937 to Elmo "Shucks" and Dora Mae Straughn in Wilson, Oklahoma. She attended Wilson schools, graduating in 1955. She then attended East Central University, going on to earn a degree in Business Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant in 1959, where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She NEVER missed a day of school, all the way through college. That was something she was very proud of, and that transitioned into a work ethic that lasted her entire life.

Her plans for a career in education changed when she visited a relative at the bank in Ardmore. She was offered a job at the bank, and never looked back. She worked for various banks throughout her career, eventually retiring as Vice President of the International Department of Bancfirst.

She was the most dependable person you knew, her family was everything to her, she was fiercely independent, and loved to travel. She was an elder with the Chickasaw Tribe and enjoyed growing the knowledge of her heritage.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmo "Shucks" Straughn and Dora Mae Straughn; brother, Garry Straughn; sister, Nancy Winslett; niece, Kathy Barker; great niece, Kayla Williams; and great nephew, Benjamin Bridges.

She is survived by her Nephews and Nieces: John (Suzette) Straughn, of Era, TX, Robin (Wes) Williams, of Norman, OK, DeAnna (Russel) Hughes, of Oklahoma City, OK, Kara (Stephen) Hill, of Oklahoma City, OK, Jerry (Jamie) Winslett, of Ashland City, TN, Gary Barker, of Sherman, TX, and Wayne Bridges, of Chipley, FL.

Great Nieces and Nephews: Kyndra (Jeffrey) Reed of Denison, TX, Ryan (Lindsay) Barker of Van Alstyne, TX, Casey (Lisa) Straughn, of Denton, TX, Karlee Coats of Oklahoma City, OK, Ty (Jordan) Hill, of Newalla, OK, Darby (Dalton) Whatley of Decatur, TX, Cory (Sydney) Williams, Norman, OK, Hunter (Aaron) Slarve of Midwest City, OK, Brandon Allen, of Ashland City, TN, Abigail (Noah) Burdeshaw, of Chipley, FL, Taylor Winslett (Nick Gupton), of Ashland City, TN, Peyton Hudson, of Ashland City, TN, Hayden Hughes, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Andie Winslett, of Ashland City, TN. A Funeral Service for Frances will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, March 16, 2026, at Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home, 1820 S Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, 73130. Interment to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma.
