Grove Funeral HomeFrances Catherine Younker of Hancock, Maryland, passed away on February 20, 2026, after several years of health challenges. She was born on November 20, 1934, to George and Pearl Caldwell in Hancock. She grew up on Casper Orchards and attended Hancock High School.
She is survived by her son Jerry Younker and partner Linda; her daughter Kim Fox, son-in-law Billy Fox, and granddaughter Erin Fox; and by numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents George and Pearl Caldwell, stepmother Mildred Caldwell, and husband Lowell Younker. The youngest member of her family, Frances outlived all of her brothers and sisters, including Ruth, Sue, Mick, Dill, Gene, Lee, Newt, Agnes, and Edna.
Frances and Lowell were married on August 20, 1952. The couple ran the Bridge Restaurant in Hancock for over 50 years, until Lowell’s death in 2008. Frances was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Eastern Star. She volunteered at the Hancock voting polls during election season for many years.
Frances cherished visits from her kids Jerry and Kim. Her favorite movies were black and white Science Fiction and Westerns. She looked forward to spring when she could pick dandelion greens from her yard and cook them. She loved her kitty cats. She also enjoyed flowers, reading, card games, crossword puzzles, Dairy Queen milkshakes, dining out, country ham, and bluegrass music courtesy of the late Marvin Ashby. Part of her legacy was the best spaghetti sauce recipe ever.
The family gives special thanks to the Hancock Rescue Squad for their diligent assistance when Frances needed emergency medical care.
Donations to honor the life of Frances can be made to the Hancock Rescue Squad, 6 E. Main Street, Hancock, Maryland 21750.
