Sharon Lynn Elbin, 61, of Needmore, Pennsylvania passed away on March 12, 2026, after her courageous 10-year fight with dementia, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was the beloved wife of her high school sweetheart, Craig R. Elbin for 39 years.
Most of all, Sharon was a loving and devoted mother to her three children; daughters, Bailey Elbin Strait (husband Colton), Marley Elbin Baker (husband Zane), and son Tanner R. Elbin. She was a loving grandmother to Royce Strait, Brooks Baker, Rollins Strait and Baby Baker on the way. Sharon was an adoring older sister to Rocky Smith and had numerous nieces and nephews.
Born on August 26, 1964, in Berkeley Springs, WV. Sharon was the daughter of Larry R. and Doris (Chesnut) Smith. Sharon was valedictorian of the Southern Fulton High School class of 1982. She then attended Shippensburg University, earning her bachelor’s degree in business administration management in three years. After college, Sharon was an automobile insurance underwriter in Frederick, MD for State Farm Insurance. After four years, Sharon came to Hancock, MD and became a self-employed State Farm Agent for 28 years. She dedicated countless hours serving her clients. She was known for her generosity, compassion, and willingness to be there whenever someone needed her. Her work ethic was simply a reflection of her selfless heart and dedication to those around her. She took, “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there” to heart.
In addition to her business, Sharon was active in the Hancock Rotary Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and a devoted member of the Hancock United Methodist Church, where she dedicated time to teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Sharon loved spending time gardening and planting flowers at her family’s home, Polaris rides, evening walks, boat rides, singing/playing piano, and summers at Surfside Beach, SC. Among the many simple joys she cherished, she also loved to treat herself to a twist ice cream cone or sipping her ever-present Diet Coke. Sharon cherished spending time with her beautiful family most of all.
Sharon’s family would like to personally thank those of Somerford House and Place and Viva Senior Living both of Hagerstown, MD for their love and compassion for Sharon. Additionally, her personal caregivers, Sharon Buterbaugh, Jennifer Youngblood, and Mary Rhodes.
“It will forever break our hearts for the time she didn’t get.”
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Hancock United Methodist Church.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 12:00p.m. with one-hour prior visitation at Hancock United Methodist Church. Pastors Becki Wessinger and Duane Jensen will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to the Hancock Rotary Club of Hancock, Maryland.
