Francis Larkin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Albert P O'Donnell Funeral Home from Oct. 3 to Oct. 4, 2024.
Francis "Frank" Larkin, 84, of Scranton died on Tuesday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosalie Wladyka Larkin. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Dr Frank and Elizabeth Morgan Larkin. He was a graduate of Scranton Preparatory School and the University of Scranton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he spent 4 years as a corpsman with the Medical Service at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He was a member of Saint Paul's Parish, Scranton.

Known to his family as "Bud", or his students as "Mr Larkin" or the occasional "Stubby", he was a dedicated teacher for 31 years in the Dunmore School District. Prior to retirement, he taught biology, nutrition and environmental science, and coached numerous students on the tennis courts.

Frank enjoyed attending all kinds of school events. First for his students, then his daughters, and then for his seven grandchildren. He would happily go to a basketball game (and keep score), an orchestra concert, dance recital, wrestling match, soccer game, volleyball game or tennis match. Frank loved spending time at Elk Lake. He grew up there and later bought a house on Sensentine Road. He regularly drove his golf cart all around to check in with friends. He was a fan of Penn State football, enjoyed playing golf and tennis with friends, and watching major tennis events both in person and on TV. He also loved Sunday dinners and any time that his family was all together. The annual beach vacation to Cape May was one of his favorite family traditions.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by 3 daughters – all of whom he called his #1 daughter (depending upon who was in nearest earshot): Teresa Beckish(Steve) of South Abington Township, Jennifer LeKites(Walt) of Middletown, and Kelly Wichner(John) of Lansdale. Seven grandchildren: Nick, Kyra, Luke, Ellie, Jack, Henry, and Elizabeth. Four sisters: Madeline Langan, Sally Romano, Anne Marie Moyer(Ron), and Terri Larkin; his sister-in-law, Teresa Lawrisky, and several nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Regional Hospital, Traditional Home Health, PAM Health, and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their exceptional care.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral home, 2025 Green Ridge St, Dunmore, with a mass of Christian burial Saturday at 9:30 AM in Saint Clare's Church, 2301 North Washington Ave, Scranton. Interment Dunmore Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. All those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church on Saturday morning. Memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal shelter, the Elk Lake Cottagers Association, or the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
