Francis P. “Butch” Rano, 83 of Worcester, formerly of Sturbridge, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 9th, 2024 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a brief illness.

Butch was born in Worcester, the son of Anthony and Florence (Nichols) Rano Sr. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and joined the Massachusetts Army National guard, 26th Yankee Division. Butch worked in the Dental industry for over 35 years for the former Smith-Holden Company and Healthco International before retiring. 

Butch is survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Janet Malone, and three brothers, Anthony Rano, Jr., Carl “Charlie” Rano, and Alesio “Sonny” Rano.

Butch was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church. He enjoyed walking around his beloved Shrewsbury St. neighborhood, trips to the casino, vacations to his favorite beach, Lauderdale by the Sea, and watching his favorite New England sports teams and Animal Planet on tv. Butch was a special individual with a huge smile, heart, and sense of humor. He was devoted to his extended family and especially enjoyed celebrating special occasions and holiday gatherings with them. He will be dearly missed. 

A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, March 15th from 9:30 am to 10:45 am followed by a celebration of Christian Burial Mass at 11 am at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. Worcester, MA.  Family friend, Reverend Charles Monroe will celebrate the mass. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Butch’s name can be made to the Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Our Lady of Loreto Parish https://mtcarmel.ws/ or the Sisters of Saint Joseph https://ssjspringfield.org/. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family once more.
