Francisco Ortega Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Symonds-Madison Funeral Home on Mar. 17, 2026.
Francisco Medina Ortega, age 71, of Lake in the Hills IL, passed away on March 15, 2026. He was born August 6, 1954 in Acambaro, Guanajuato, Mexico to his loving parents, Mauro Medina Ruíz and Belen Ortega Sarraga.

Francisco was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a man whose strength and kindness left a lasting mark on all who knew him. He was married to his beloved wife, Carolina, for 38 years-a partnership built on love, faith, and unwavering commitment.

Francisco was known for his sense of humor, often bringing laughter to those around him, and for his caring heart, especially when it came to children. His strength-both physical and spiritual-carried him through life's challenges and inspired those who walked alongside him.

A man of deep faith, Francisco found joy and peace in prayer and in attending church. He cherished the simple, meaningful pleasures of life: riding horses, working with firearms, and preparing meals for those he loved. He was especially known for making barbacoa for his family, a tradition that brought everyone together and created lasting memories.

One of the most profound moments in Francisco's life was the birth of his granddaughter. During a time when he faced only an 18% chance of survival, her arrival became a source of hope and strength that helped carry him through. It was a testament to the deep love he had for his family.

Among his fondest memories were the days spent cooking out in the countryside, surrounded by loved ones, while his children played freely and bathed in the river. These moments reflected the heart of who Francisco was-a man who treasured family, nature, and togetherness above all else.

Francisco's legacy is one of love, faith, resilience, and generosity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

Francisco was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Salvador, Lucía, and José. He is survived by his wife, Carolina Ruíz Mendoza; sons, Francisco Jorge, Rigoberto, Eduardo, and Jesús Medina; siblings, Tomás, Refugio, Pedro, Delfina, Veronica, Celia, and Jesús; and granddaughter, Andrea Medina Patiño.

Visitation will be 10:30am to 2:00pm, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Mass will follow at 2:30pm at St. Monica Church, 90 N. Kennedy Drive, Carpentersville, IL 60110. Fr. Luis Camacho will be officiating.

Interment will be at Pantheon Jardines de Acambaro, Guanajuato, Mexico.
