Frank Mixum Abbott, affectionately known as Frank, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025. Services to celebrate his life may be held at a later date.
Frank was born December 9, 1946, in Cape Town, South Africa, to the late Mr. James Robert Abbott Jr. and Mrs. Ida Marie Westerfield. From an early age, Frank carried a spirit of generosity and compassion that would define his life’s work. He was a selfless man who never hesitated to help anyone in need. His heart for service led him to establish the charity People Helping People, a reflection of his belief that kindness should be shared with all. His dedication to his community earned him the honor of being named Volunteer of the Year by WMAZ 13.
Frank served as an Indian agent and made one of the most profound gestures of generosity by donating a kidney to a stranger. His passion for genealogy became both his calling and his joy. He devoted countless hours researching family histories and even authored books documenting the stories of Jones County.
He loved gathering with friends at the Waffle House and enjoyed spending time with his high school classmates at the Gray Dairy Queen. Frank was educated in his own way, guided by a sharp mind, strong opinions, and a caring nature. He was smart, genuine, and endlessly giving.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brothers James Robert Abbott III, known as Bobby, David Lawrence Abbott, and Eugene Shannon Abbott.
Left to cherish his memory are an abundance of loving friends, especially Brenda, Wade, Jessica, Will, Staci Hunnicutt; Otha, Sue Ellen, Kathy, Delk, Darrell and Walter P. Collins; and Sara Green. Their lives, along with many others, were deeply touched by his kindness, companionship, and unwavering generosity.
Frank Abbott will be remembered for a life lived with purpose, compassion, and a heart always open to others.
